On July 10, 2014, a young girl participated in a children rally organised in Odisha as part of a school enrolment drive. But when the rally got over, all the children went back to schools, but that young girl did not.

That young girl is 11-year-old Roshni from Khamtarai village of Nuapada district in Odisha.  The rally was organised with support of Oxfam India and our staff noticed that Roshni did not go to school once the event ended.

On inquiring with Roshni, she shared that she has not been to school for the past one year.

Roshni had to discontinue her school after class IV. He parents were migrating to Andhra Pradesh to work in a brick kiln. She expressed her wish to go to the school but her father was against it.

Oxfam India staff met her father and tried to persuade him to let her continue her education. After a long argument, her father agreed to send Roshni back to school.

We then discussed the matter with the Head Master of Khamtarai Primary School who readily helped in getting her enrolled into class-V as per the provisions of Right to Education Act 2009.

Finally Roshni was sent back to school.  She attends school and the remedial classes organised by Oxfam India regularly.

Roshni is not the only one. There are many children forced to drop out from schools and migrate with their parents in search of livelihood.

Help bring children like Roshni back to school. #HaqBantaHai.
