A month has passed since a massive earthquake, and over 100 jolting aftershocks, have devastated Nepal. The death toll is nearing 9000 and over 17,000 are injured. But the disaster is far from over.

Infact, right now people in Nepal are racing against time to get a roof over their heads, even if it is a temporary one. Millions in Nepal are homeless and they could face the direct brunt of the soon-to-arrive monsoon season.

To make matter worse, thousands of people were evacuated in western Nepal after a massive landslide blocked the Kaligandaki river in Myagdi district early on Sunday.

The worry now is many remote areas of Nepal are prone to landslides. And these areas could become virtually inaccessible in the monsoon season.

Lok Bahadur Thapa is a chief engineer and in-charge of distribution of relief material in Gorkha district. A team of Oxfam from India reached via road to Gorkha and has been distributing relief supplies. They have now set up their base of operation in Gorkha.

“There are threats of major landslides and this could lead to floods in the river in Badaun valley,” said Thapa

He also said that many temporary roads, which have been cleared and made operational after the earthquakes also run the risk of being blocked by landslides.

This would also result in many remote villages, in need of relief materials, being cut off.

Time is not on the side of the people in Nepal. They need urgent help. Oxfam is trying to provide shelters to as many people as possible. But we need your help.
