10 steps to food security. Lets ensure everyone has enough to eat #GROW @OxfamIndia http://bit.ly/1BLyKWI

Millions of livelihoods at stake, heres what you can do. #GROW to prevent an unequal feast @OxfamIndia http://bit.ly/1BLyKWI

Soon there will be 9 billion people on this planet. But already almost 1 billion of us go to bed hungry every night. Not because there isn’t enough but because of the deep injustice in the way the system works. Additionally too many of the ways we grow today are using up and destroying the natural resources which we all rely on. The system is broken and we need to fix it.

#GROW movements are in support of a future where everyone always has enough to eat.  Here are the 10 recipes that can make sure everyone has enough:

1. Enshrine people’s food and nutrition rights in the proposed Right to Food Act and provide nutritious food for all.

2. Reform public schemes on food and nutrition ( such as PDS, ICDS, Mid-day meal and IGMSY) so as to ensure food and nutrition rights of all especially the poor and marginalised.

3. Protect the land, water and forest rights of vulnerable groups, especially women and tribals.

4. Ensure that private investments made in agriculture locally and globally are responsible, ethical and sustainable.

5. Work on just and equitable global deal on climate change that limits global warming.

6. Build capacities of farming communities to adapt to the impacts of climate change.

7. Invest in a second green revolution in Eastern India that is equitable, sustainable and focusses on small holder farmers in rain-fed areas.

8. Recognize and support women’s important role as producers, processors and providers of food and nutrition.

9. Ensure that India plays an active role in global system to prevent food price crisis.

10. Strengthen community based mechanisms to reduce the effects of natural disasters on food security.
