Women farmers are largely invisible to the state and society. They perform most of the ‘big jobs’ like sowing and harvesting, yet, their access to resources is less than that of men. It is in this backdrop that the Bihar State Coalition of the National Coalition of CSOs or UJAS decided to conduct an assessment of the situation of the women farmers with respect to their access to Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana and Kisan Credit Cards. The interlinkage to challenges in accessing scheme benefits and dearth of land ownership by women was a primary topic of discussion. In addition, it was also brought to the fore how the pandemic had increased the difficulties of those associated with agricultural activities, especially the women farmers due to inaccessibility to market during the lockdown period.
