Way Forward for the New Development Bank

Way Forward for the New Development Bank

  • 12 Jan, 2018

The New Development Bank, founded by the BRICS members, was signed into existence in 2014 and began lending operations in 2016. A majority of its support has been directed towards renewable energy and infrastructure projects in the BRICS nations and 13 projects (11 at the time of writing) have been funded thus far.

This paper is a compendium of existing policies across six thematic areas at six comparator development finance institutions (DFIs) which finance development projects in the global South. It aims to use the analyses of existing practices across the more established DFIs to evolve recommendations for the NDB to further its credentials as a transparent, accountable and inclusive public institution.
