Gender and Development in Chhattisgarh: Some Policy Prescriptions

Despite rapid economic growth, Chhattisgarh has seen a sluggish decline in poverty leading to pockets of extreme deprivation. A fallout of this development paradigm, which ignored the needs and aspirations of the marginalised communities, has been the rise in violence against women. There is urgent need for the government of Chhattisgarh to put in place an updated State Women’s Policy, adopt appropriate policy measures for ensuring land rights to women and bring back its focus on gender budgeting.
