We campaign to change patriarchal mindsets that influence violence against women

One out of three women between 15 and 49 years has experienced physical violence. One in 10 is a survivor of sexual violence.

Violence against women and girls is a violation of human rights and one of the most persistent forms of gender inequality and discrimination.

Oxfam India’s work on gender equality aims to enable more poor and marginalised women to claim and advance their rights, and to make violence against women socially unacceptable and less prevalent. In particular, we work with our partners to end domestic violence by building greater political will to better implement the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005; directly support women who face violence; and campaign to change patriarchal attitudes that influence violence against women.

We also campaign to secure 50% representation of women in public institutions so that women have an equal say in decisions that affect their lives.
