The organisation has been working in the project area for last 14 years. Violence against women has been the focus and a cross cutting issue for KHOJ. ‘Sajag’, in Hindi, refers to ‘being aware’. Being aware their rights. Being aware about the law and the process to get justice.,/p>

KHOJ is working to end violence against women by:

Creating awareness amongst the community on the issue of gender based discrimination, patriarchy, violence against women, domestic violence as human right violations.

Increased access to legal support services for women -- especially tribal and Dalit women -- facing violence.

Forming community based nyay samitis (justice committees) and building a support center.

Having a women’s group in each village. All the women in the village could be members of the unit.

Two women will represent their village unit at block level to form block level committee. This block level committee will be linked with Chhattisgarh Mahila Adhikar Manch.

Forming youth groups and men’s group as a preventive strategy.

Impact:

Women, men and youth in the community demonstrate greater understanding about patriarchy, unequal gender power relations and root causes of gender based violence and will take action to reduce violence against women.

Membership based women’s groups develop with a feminist understanding

Institution based mechanisms set up to provide psycho-social support including counseling, legal aid, medical aid and any other support required.

An alternative justice mechanism to be in place soon, which will be a support system for the survivors of violence.

The network of Chhattisgarh Mahila Adhikar Manch and Dalit Adivasi Manch to be strengthened.

Effective implementation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 to be ensured to enable women to get timely justice and in order to reduce and respond to violence against women.

Quote.

Revti Bai, Bagaarpali village – After the training I received, I understood that establishing physical relation without the consent of wife is a violence.
