Skechers lends a helping hand to Cyclone Fani victims in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Skechers, an American lifestyle and performance brand in association with Non-Governmental Organisation,Oxfam India takes an initiative to help people rehabilitate post Cyclone Fani in Odishain the presence of the Bollywood actress – Yami Gautam on the 7th June at Skechers store, Janpath Road, Bhubaneswar. Yami Gautam will be seen continuing the GoRun truck challenge in Odisha by running on the treadmill, thus helping raise donation for the cause. Post which, the participants have to run at the pace of 16km/hr for 3 minutes on the treadmill. The quantity of shoes donated will depend on the kilometres covered by the participants. Along with the truck activity, the brand will organise a few other activities where people can engage and help the cause.

Mr. Rahul Vira, Skechers South Asia, CEO, “We want Odisha comfortably back on its feet and its normality, for which Skechers would be more than glad to be able to come forward and lend a helping hand and make a change in whatever way we can. We urge the people in Odisha to come out in numbers and participate in this challenge and help the cause.”
Adding to Mr. Vira’s comment, Bollywood actress Yami Gautam said, “It was indeed a heart-wrenching incident and our hearts go out to each and everybody who has suffered from any loss. I am obliged to be a part of this activity with Skechers and we look forward to your participation as we stand united, to help the families affected as they recover from this cyclone.”


“The people of Odisha have suffered tremendous amount of loss and families are waiting to rebuild their lives. In these tough times, any support by corporates or individuals can help many poor families live their lives with dignity and without the fear of being pushed further into poverty.  We are on the ground reaching out to more than 35,000 people in three districts—Puri, Khordha and Jagatsinghpur of Odisha. We need many more initiatives like these since rehabilitation of affected people will take time,” said Pankaj Anand, Director of Programme & Advocacy at Oxfam India.


After covering Mangalore, Kochi, and many other states down south, the Skechers branded truck is heading towards Bhubaneswar on 7th June at Skechers store, Janpath road at 3:30 PM onwards.
