An educated girl can fulfil her dreams and support her family

Your support will help Oxfam India educate thousands of underprivileged girls

Challenges in girl child education

  • Education Expense: Due to financial constraints a lot of parents prefer educating their son instead of their daughter.
  • Child Marriage: Girls are forced to drop out of school or never sent to school so that they can be married off early.
  • Long Distance to School: In rural areas, children often walk long distances to school. Girls are forced to stay at home due to increased risk of violence.
  • Household Chores: Many girls are denied education to take up household responsibilities and take care of family members.
  • Gender Inequality: Often girls are denied education because of the staunch patriarchal norms and belief that they will eventually get married and go to a different family, while the boy will stay with the parents and take care of them.
