Anjana, a woman from Missing tribe, smiles as now she can give safe drinking water to her family in Ghagaramukh village of Jorhat district, Assam
Anjana has one daughter and two sons, the family stays in a flood-prone village and used to get drinking water from the river Jhanji nearby. “Our drinking water was not fit to drink but we didn’t have any alternative.”
The village faces annual floods and erosion, there are no safe drinking water sources that the tribal families can rely upon. As a part of our Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) programme, Oxfam has given them bio-sand filters.
“This bio-sand filter is a blessing for our family and we get safe drinking water from it. Now, we don’t have to worry about water-borne diseases,” says a smiling Anjana.
