Introduction

Vidarbha Nature Conservation Society (VNCS) was formed in 1978 by a group of school and college going wildlife enthusiasts. The purpose of the organisation is to build an ecologically sensitive and responsible society. VNCS has diversified from the initial focus of environmental education to research and documentation, networking and advocacy on issues related to NRM, biodiversity and livelihoods.

VNCS operates in 43 villages spread in 6 blocks in the four districts of Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia and Nagpur. It works with a total population of 16,000 in 2515 households. More than 84 percent of the households covered belong to the tribal category. The rest are SC and less than one percent households belong to the PVTGs.
