National Food Security Act was passed in 2013 and the government systems are gearing up for its implementation. A need is felt for systemic monitoring and advocacy, to push for policy reforms and urgent need to fill the knowledge gap of partners with reference to maternity benefits.


Overall the project seeks to systematise the efforts of the grass roots organisations through support in grassroots surveys advocacy with the state governments and policy inputs on national food security act 2013 with three fold focus – 

1.Systematic generation of field data pertaining to the exclusion of most marginalised communities with emphasis on maternity benefits. In the previous year, PDS was the focus. 

2.Assisting the partners on advocacy for the most marginalised communities with the respective State Governments with the partners as the principal agents of the advocacy and change, based on community inputs

3.Pushing for systemic reforms issues in ICDS, MDM, PDS and NSAP through draft NFSA rules to assist advocacy at National and State Level for inclusion of marginalised and excluded groups. 


About the Project: 

The project aims to

1.To assess the current status of implementation and preparedness for delivery of all the entitlements and provisions under the National Food Security Act in four states, along with Oxfam partners and other relevant civil society partners.

2.Continue advocacy with the state governments for implementation of the NFSA and reforms in the PDS, ICDS and maternity entitlement schemes, with the support of Oxfam partners and other relevant civil society organisations.

3.To examine the systems put in place by various state governments for ensuring accountability and grievance redressal in the delivery of the entitlements under the NFSA.

2.Report on the study on Maternity Benefits conducted in the districts where the scheme was piloted
