Investing in girls' education & empowering them to be opinion leaders & decision makers can address many challenges that plague Indian society like maternal-child health & gender based violence. Your donation can educate a girl child & change many lives.

Who is responsible when a girl is wedded before she turns 18 and becomes a mother — Is it the parents, the in-laws, neighbors, teachers, government or the child herself? These children may never get a chance to study and make a better living unless we all come together to support them. A small amount of Rs 300 per month can make a big difference. Support their education. Make a difference.

India also has the highest number of child brides in the world. UNICEF’s State of World’s Children 2014 ranks India 12th among 20 countries with high rates of child marriages but India ranks first in absolute numbers. Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have the highest incidence of child marriage.

Nearly 30% of girls in India are married before their 18th birthday* (NFHS 4). Girls in India want to study but lack resources and opportunities to enrol or continue their education. Children drop out of school either due to lack of learning material, girl friendly environment, inadequate school infrastructure, poverty or awareness and thus communities and families lean towards child marriage.

But we can change this and give children especially girls a childhood they deserve. Let's all come together to help these children get back to school and ensure that each child irrespective of their background gets a fair and equal chance of attaining primary education and achieving their dreams. The plight of these children should not be ignored.

Oxfam is working in the six poorest states of India (Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Orissa) to send the most vulnerable and underprivileged children back to school. And we cannot do this without your support. Every month you can contribute a fixed amount to help a child reach their full potential in life through education.

1.    Oxfam identifies the most vulnerable children and enrols them in school under the Right to Education Act (RTE).
2.    Oxfam counsels and forms school management groups to generate awareness related to RTE at village/district level.
3.    Oxfam provides gap classes to drop out children and enrols them to their age-appropriate classes.
4.    Oxfam forms school management committees comprising of teachers, students and parents for better functioning and accountability.
5.    Oxfam strengthens school infrastructure, builds toilets, provides books and other learning materials to children and schools in need.

By signing up for a monthly contribution of as little as Rs 500, you can help Oxfam educate thousands of underprivileged and vulnerable little girls in India. The amount you contribute every month will help a child learn, grow and build a better life for themselves and their family.

These children come from the top six poorest states of India and have dreams to make it big. Your support will enable them to study and achieve their dreams. You can save a girl from child marriage and enrol her in school.

Let's make a significant difference and give a better chance at life to underprivileged children to become future leaders!
