Children are the worst affected by disasters. They bear the brunt of shock and confusion. They witness their house crumble, their clothes, books, toys and everything they love destroyed by the disaster. They even bear the separation or loss of their loved ones at a very young age. They drop out of school and education becomes a forgotten reality. With no food, clean drinking water and hygiene facilities after disasters, children are the most vulnerable to diseases. Thus, these children get severely affected physically and psychologically.
Floods in India this year dawned upon misery on over 3.4 crore people in 5 states of India. It devastated the lives of over 1.2 crore children.* Oxfam India is on the ground helping families and children recover from this disaster and building long-term solutions for them to not only survive but thrive.
For families to cope with this disaster and children to get back to school, we need your help. Without your monthly support, children will not be able to build a brighter future and millions of survivors will have nothing to survive on.
YOUR DONATATION WILL HELP US REACH OUT TO MORE FAMILIES AND ENABLE CHILDREN TO GET BACK TO SCHOOL.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO SEND CHILDREN BACK TO SCHOOL?
During disasters, children are the most vulnerable and their only salvation is going to school. More than 15,000 schools have been damaged due to floods.* This means that hundreds of thousands of children will not be able to attend school anymore. If schools are not repaired, the future of these children will remain broken and education will become a far-fetched dream.
We need to send flood-affected children back to school so they can establish a sense of stability and normalcy during times of crisis. The longer the children are out of school following a disaster, the less likely it is for them to ever return. Enrolling them back to school is the only way we can help children recover from such devastating disasters. And your support can make that possible.

In Assam, we held workshops in nearly 40 schools on hygiene and sanitation as also installed water filters in 15 schools. But our work does not end here. Our team is working hard on the ground in the worst flood-hit districts in India to provide urgent and long-term support to people in need but they can’t do it alone. Oxfam does not have the supplies to reach out to every child, family or community in need. You can help us reach out faster to each and every one of them, enrol children back to school and save their lives. Give your monthly support now and be the superhero these children need.
Oxfam continues to work in the six poorest states of India (Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Orissa) to send the most vulnerable and underprivileged children back to school.
