Floods devastate lives. Over 20 lakh people have been affected in Assam so far*.
People have lost their homes, as well as their agricultural produce, personal valuables and livestock, all of which they depended on for their livelihood. The aftermath of deluge brings the threat of malnutrition, diarrhoea, water-borne diseases like cholera and dysentery and psychological stress. Drinking water and sanitation remain a challenge even if one is living in a relief camp.

We are active in the worst affected districts in Assam and are working on-
- Providing hygiene kits, shelter kits, food materials and non-food material for daily survival needs
- Installing elevated handpumps to supply clean drinking water even in high water levels
- Building Toilets
- Providing counselling and phycological support to children and women
- Identifying and training people for new livelihood opportunities and skills.

Without access to clean water, food and shelter, flood survivors are particularly vulnerable at this time. Hand pumps are contaminated with flood water; open defecation and debris have become matters of concern. Karimganj and Lakhimpur are the worst affected districts.

Oxfam India has distributed food items in Assam to 250 Households and Hygiene and Shelter Kits to over 3500 households in the worst affected district of Assam.
Our team is tirelessly working to provide urgent assistance for flood survivors to cope. The pressing need at this moment is to provide Food, Clean drinking water, Hygiene kits, Shelter to protect people from extreme weather and other Non-Food items like tarpaulins, blankets, ground sheets, and a specially designed Oxfam bucket that prevents contamination of water, mugs, mosquito nets and water purification tablets with other materials.
