In Assam as many as 21 districts saw devastation due to the floods. It affected over 17,00,000 people. Kokrajhar, Chirang and Bongaigaon that are part of the Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD) were severely affected due to breach in Saralbanga embankment. 187 villages in Kokrajhar and 113 villages in Bongaigaon saw flood water inundate as the displaced took shelter in schools and national highway. More than one lakh hectares of croplands in over 2000 villages were hit by the floods. Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon have not experienced flood of this nature since 1983.
