Access to free medicine campaign in Odisha

 
Spreading the Message Through Street Plays 

Across districts and especially in Dhenkanal, Balangir, Raygada, Koraput and in Bhubaneswar street plays were organized by young volunteers to spread the message on access to free medicines and the government of Odisha free medicine scheme "Niramaya".

The objective was reaching to more number of people both in urban and rural areas, passing on the information and creating a public demand for the implementation of the scheme. 

District level Public Engagements 

In the district headquarters of Kandhamal, Koraput, Sundargarh, Raygada, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Ganjam district level public facing events were conducted. Different programmes were conducted in different districts as part of this. 

Engagement with Primary Stakeholders - ASHA, AWW, PHC, CHC, DH 

District level interaction has been conducted with district medical officer, medical officers, other service providers, RKS members, elected representatives, ASHA and Anganwadi workers. 

Reaching to the Patients through Community Level Interaction 

In 10 districts and nine urban slums in Bhubaneswar interactions were held with the patients in small groups on Niramaya scheme. The GKS members have also participated in these meetings and submitted demands for implementation of the scheme. 

Interacting and Engaging with Media 

 

After the state level media consultation follow up has been done with the participant journalist to do exclusive stories on access to medicines as well as on Niramaya scheme.

Samaya, an Odiya daily has done two front page stories on the status of Niramaya scheme in Odisha as well as on overall quality and cost issues of medicines. A number of stories were done by the district level journalists.

In line with the state consultation, a district level consultation was also held with the district journalists in Jajpur. Along with it, Oxfam India is working with Radio Namaskar and four other community radios to spread the message and create demand for the scheme.

More than 20 news items were published along with two exclusive stories.
