DONATE TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

Sunita Devi

Sunita Devi, a mother of 4 children, is one of the many survivors, who faced domestic violence and yet were able to reclaim their right to life with dignity. It has only been possible due to generous supporters like you and the work Oxfam India and its partners do on the ground to empower women to fight for their rights.

Sunita Devi never wanted to get married and wanted to study beyond class 5. But her parents got her married at a young age of 10 or 12. She was made to work at farmlands, cook food, wash utensils amongst other daily unpaid chores and was subject to violence by her own husband and in laws.

Sunita is one the many women who face violence at their homes. As per a report*, as many as 2 in 5 married women aged 15-49 years have experienced spousal violence
