Violence Against Women

Violence Against Women continues to be one of the most prevalent and least recognized human rights violations in the world. In India, this violence occurs in many forms- domestic violence, sexual assault, public humiliation/ abuse, trafficking and honor killing. One in every two women in India experience violence in their daily life. Oxfam India under its Gender Justice theme has been addressing the issue of violence against women in 13 states of the country through various programs and campaigns like ‘We Can’ campaign.

Women's Political Empowerment

The persistent under-representation of women in political life and decision making has lead to a “democratic deficit” in India. The discrimination women face hinders them from demonstrating their full potential and excludes them from benefiting equally from development process. The processes of governance must be inclusive and participatory so that all citizens, men and women, have the opportunity to influence the institutions and policies that affect their lives.
