In the area of economic justice, Oxfam globally aspires to make agriculture work for the benefit of poor farmers and laborers. It works at local, national and international levels with communities, governments and the private sector to increase the levels of food security and sustainable income for small holders and farm workers. It also strives to increase the power of poor producers, especially women and build capacities of institutions that can engage in and regulate markets. The idea is to enable poor countries and people to get a fair share of the wealth and opportunities generated by world trade, with a strong focus on IFIs (International Financial Institutions), governments and agribusiness.

The Economic Justice portfolio of Oxfam India derives its focus from the twin issues of food crisis and the impact of climate change on poor people. Besides working towards pro-poor climate change deals, Oxfam India is addressing the livelihood challenges of the poor, especially the rural and the marginalised. It is endeavoring to strengthen institutions of poor farmers, forest dwellers and fisher folk to effectively engage with government and markets to secure their livelihoods and to reap economic benefits.
