G20 Summit in Seoul should make a serious and ongoing commitment to development issues: Oxfam India
New Delhi, November 03: Oxfam India has called upon the Indian delegation going to Seoul later this month to strengthen the global voices which are advocating for the G20 summit to make a serious and ongoing commitment to development issues and in emphasizing the fact that it can make a vital difference to tackling global poverty.
In this context, an Oxfam International report, "The Making of the Seoul Development Consensus" was launched in the Capital today.The report calls upon world leaders and to the Indian delegation going to Seoul that they should commit themselves to sustainable growth that reduces inequity and recognizes that equitable growth and reaching the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are mutually reinforcing objectives.
On the occasion, a roundtable discussion on the topic : "G-20 Summit in Seoul: What Role for India" was organized by Oxfam India. Those who participated in the discussion include Alok Sheel, Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Prof. Jayati Ghosh, Professor of Economics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jill Carr-Harris of South South Solidarity and Mr. Ram Kishan from Christian Aid-India & Wada Na Todo Abhiyan.
