Leh-Ladakh: Pall of gloom and destruction descends

The town of Leh and its adjoining areas have been hit by massive flash floods on the night of August 05, 2010 (Early morning of Aug 06, 2010 between 00:00 – 02:00Hrs). A majority of people died while asleep and scores of people were washed away when they tried to escape from the floods. Hundreds are believed to be buried in 7 to 8 feet of slush and mud.
What is Oxfam India doing?
- Most of the relief material has already been airlifted to the affected areas.
- Safe drinking water
- Distribution of Hygiene Kits (includes Bucket +mug +soaps + sanitary) cloth to 2000 households
- Setting up of winterized shelters Setting up of latrines and bathing cubicles
