Oxfam India’s Essential Services campaign aims to empower marginalised communities to demand accountability of the state for basic essential services as rights. The campaign supports efforts of communities, in particular and civil society, in general in demanding constitutional rights and holding governments accountable to their commitments.
We work with civil society organisations and networks focusing on.
(a) Demanding basic rights of the socially marginalised groups.
(b) Monitoring performance of institutions of governance.
(c) Holding governments accountable to its pro-poor commitments.
(d) Budget tracking and public spending for essential services.
The campaign has adopted a twin strategy: strong grassroots-backed movements to realise the potential of the existing plans and pushing for greater policy reforms at the State and National levels.
